Blueberry MRL Chart - December 2014
The blueberry industry has lost an important link to our history. John W. Nelson passed away at his home in South Haven, Michigan on February 8, 2015 at 87 years of age. He is survived by his children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John W. Nelson started working summers for Michigan Blueberry Growers Association (MBGA) when he was just 12-years old. He was eventually hired as MBGA’s assistant manager when he graduated from the Michigan State College of Agriculture, later becoming MBG’s first director of research in 1955. He was awarded MBG’s Pioneer Award in 1976, and completed his career at MBG in 1989, after serving and educating hundreds of MBG members, and working closely with the USDA, Michigan State University and the North American Blueberry Council in furthering our blueberry industry. In appreciation for his years of service, the USDA named the “Nelson” blueberry variety in his honor.
